SMARTEMP Jet Swirl Diffuser JSC-AD
Smarter Design / Smarter Engineering / SMARTAIR DIFFUSION™
The SMARTEMP Adjustable Jet Swirl Diffuser, type JSC-AD, has been designed for installation at very high discharge heights. It includes discharge pattern adjustment to vary airflow direction from high induction horizontal swirl, for draught-free cooling, to a penetrating vertical jet, for effective heating from extremely high levels. In cooling mode, high induction horizontal swirl discharge diffuses the cold supply air, which then falls by convection to provide draught-free cooling to the space. Vertical supply air is discharged downwards as a jet to achieve long vertical throws from elevated discharge heights. The JSC-AD swirl diffuser can be flush mounted in a ceiling or freely suspended.
Swirl vanes are recessed within a round bell-mouth, surrounding a central jet with suspended guide ring and jet straightener. The JSC-AD is made of powder coated metal. Diffuser discharge direction is adjustable (manual or electrically motorised) from a horizontal projecting swirl disc to a downward projecting jet. The diffuser is characterised by highly inductive swirling discharge in cooling mode to ensure enhanced draught-free comfort in cooling applications. Vertical jet discharge in heating mode allows heating to be achieved in applications with extreme discharge heights.
In cooling mode, intense mixing at the swirl diffuser discharge surface strongly dilutes the swirling supply air stream, mixing this with large quantities of room air. The intense mixing characteristics of high induction swirl discharge provide many advantages. Intense mixing produces rapid temperature equalisation of the supply air stream with room air, preventing cold air dumping, thereby ensuring uniform temperature distribution (no cold and draughty or hot and stagnant spots) and high comfort levels in the space. High induction produces a strong increase in the supply air stream mass flow rate, as well as rapid discharge velocity decay. As a result, at any given airflow rate, the JSC-AD swirl diffuser is suitable both for long horizontal throws (due to the supply air stream’s high momentum) and short throws (due to the supply air stream’s low velocity).
The stable discharge characteristics of the JSC-AD swirl diffuser over a wide range of supply air temperatures and volume flow rates, make this swirl diffuser suitable for standard air conditioning systems, with constant flow or with VAV, whilst maintaining air diffusion performance index values (ADPI) in excess of 90%. The jet-like heating characteristics of the JSC-AD are well suited to extremely high discharge heights, such as sports arenas and exhibition halls.
