Patented directional side-blow swirl diffuser with manually or electrically adjustable discharge direction adjustment and three manual throw settings (short, medium or long). Suitable for installation in walls or bulkheads. Optional electrically operated constant horizontal throw VAV available (size DN630 only).
Location – side: Suitable for discharge from walls or bulkheads.
Mixed flow discharge: High induction swirl discharge intensely mixes supply air with room air. Strong supply air dilution with rapid discharge velocity decay produces draught-free, high momentum supply air motion of uniform temperature distribution over short or long throws. Ideal for enhanced thermal comfort (ADPI ≥ 80%).
Adjustable direction: Airflow direction adjustment from substantially horizontal to substantially vertical, for draught-free cooling and effective heating, respectively.
Manual adjustment: Discharge direction adjustment is manual.
Circular face shape: Diffuser face flange is round.
Radial face pattern: Swirl vanes are visible.
Metal Face: Powder coated metal finish. |
Options
Constant throw: Size DN630 available with optional VAV kit to provide turndown to between 25% and 40% (depending on throw setting) whilst maintaining substantially constant horizontal throw.
Electric adjustment: Airflow direction adjustment (upwards for cooling; downwards for heating) by means of electric actuator with 24V AC/DC power supply and 2-10 V control input. Well suited to supply-to-room temperature differential control for optimised cooling and heating performance, providing effective downward heat penetration whilst ensuring draught-free operation year round.
Thermal adjustment: Self-acting up/down discharge direction adjustment – no external power source or controls required. Cool supply air is directed upwards providing draught-free air motion, and warm supply air is directed downwards for effective penetration of heat to a low level. |

Function
The SMARTEMP Wall Swirl Diffuser, type CSW-AD, produces high induction directional swirl discharge over long horizontal throws (manually adjustable) with stepless manual, thermal or electrical up/down discharge direction adjustment.
Size DN630 may optionally be supplied with electrically adjustable variable air volume (VAV) regulation. The patented VAV design maintains largely constant horizontal throw across the full VAV range of 100% down to approximately 25% to 40% airflow, depending on the throw setting.
High induction swirl discharge offers many advantages.Intense mixing at the discharge surface strongly dilutes the swirling supply air stream with large quantities of room air. This provides rapid temperature – and hence density – equalisation of the supply air with room air, preventing cold air dumping, thereby ensuring uniform temperature distribution (no cold and draughty or hot and stagnant spots). High comfort levels are attained in the occupancy space. High induction swirl discharge produces a strong increase in supply air stream mass flow rate, as well as rapid discharge velocity decay. At any given airflow rate, the diffuser is suitable both for long throws (due to the supply air stream’s high momentum) as well as short throws (due to the supply air stream’s low velocity). The diffuser may, additionally, be set to any one of two or three throw horizontal settings, depending on diffuser size. The high induction side-blow swirl discharge of the CSW-AD diffuser achieves low velocity movement of the strongly diluted supply air stream across the entire length of throw. Temperature distribution is uniform and draught-free.
Discharge direction adjustment to optimise cooling and heating airflow patterns is achieved by swivelling the guide vanes of the diffuser’s central jet vertically over an arc of 60° to, in turn, adjust the airflow direction of the combined jet and swirl air streams by ±30° from the diffuser’s central axis. Swivel adjustment is manual, thermal or electric. Thermal adjustment is by means of a self-actuating thermal wax element located in the supply air stream, offering the advantage that no power or control wiring is required. Electric adjustment is typically used to provide stepless discharge direction adjustment from slightly upwards in cooling mode to strongly downwards in heating mode, and is suitable for 24 VAC/VDC power supply and a 2-10 V control signal..
The face of the SMARTEMP CSW-AD swirl diffuser has twelve flush radial swirl vanes surrounding a central jet. The diffuser is made of powder coated metal. The SMARTEMP CSW-AD diffuser is suitable for a supply-to-room temperature differential ≥ -15 K in cooling mode and ≤ +10 K in heating mode. It provide enhanced levels of thermal comfort over horizontal throws of ≤ 35 m, providing air diffusion performance index values (ADPI) in excess of 90%.
Innovation
Unique features include:
- Variable discharge direction of swirl airstream via adjustable direction of central jet – manual, thermal or electric.
- Manual throw adjustment – short, medium, long.
- Electrical actuator VAV with constant horizontal throw (DN630 only).
